Social Justice Mission
Our Social Justice function strives to further the UUFVB mission of seeking justice for all by engaging in social justice actions including service, education, advocacy, and witness. These actions may be individual, committee, or congregational and may apply to local, state, national, or international issues.
Coalition for Racial Justice
Since 2016, the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Vero Beach (UUFVB) has hosted a group dedicated to supporting African American neighbors and promoting racial justice. This working group (CRJ) meets the second Tuesday of the month at 3:30 in the library.
Members work together to plan and implement initiatives that foster understanding, advocacy, and support within the community. To get involved or learn more, contact the church office at 772-778-5880 for the names of the co-chairs.
Initiative for Reproductive Justice (IRJ)
The Initiative for Reproductive Justice (IRJ), a part of the Social Justice work at the UUFVB, is a task force of citizens working to promote reproductive and sexual health, freedom and autonomy for people in Indian River County and surrounding areas to make their own decisions about whether and when to have children.
Our efforts are focused in three broad categories:
- Resources – abortion and contraception access, financial support, and other forms of pre- and post-abortion support
- Education – women’s reproductive and lifespan sexual health
- Representation – legislative arena
We facilitate connections with organizations focused on securing reproductive health, justice and education. We are advocates and activists for social acceptance of the individual’s right to control their own body.
