Rev. Tom was born in New Orleans and spent much of his early life attending Mardi Gras. While he joyfully participated in the parades and parties, it wasn’t until he was an adult that he began to question some of the traditions, realizing that racism and patriarchal culture undergirded this Carnival Celebration.
