Music During Services:

Music is an integral part of each UUFVB Sunday service, with instrumental music, choral music, and congregational singing always part of the message of the morning. Most of the congregational hymns are from the UU hymnal, which include some hymn tunes familiar to mainstream Christian hymns.  Other hymns are more modern and unique to Unitarian Universalism.  The words to the hymns are displayed on two large screens behind the pulpit for those who are familiar with the music.

UUFVB Adult Choir:

The choir is led by the Director of Music, Elizabeth Borne. Choir practice is held regularly on Wednesday 11:30am to 1:00pm, September through May. During the summer months, Wednesday rehearsals are less frequent, and there are often special musicians to perform the Sunday anthem.  However, the choir still meets at 9:00am (1 hour prior to the Sunday service) to practice the introit and lead the congregation in the hymn singing.

In addition to their weekly introits and anthems, the choir offers other musical experiences to the congregation. Each spring, the choir gifts the congregation with a Music Sunday. This special service is filled with both choral and congregational singing, as well as related readings. For several years, Fellowship Choir members have participated in the large chorus for the Interfaith Service held the Monday evening prior to Thanksgiving.

The choir always welcomes new singers. No audition is required; however, a choir singer should have a love of singing, a love of learning, and a cooperative spirit.
