Reverend Tom Capo joins us from the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Miami.
He previously served Unitarian Universalist congregations in Iowa, Illinois, and Texas. While ministering to congregations he was active on Interfaith Boards, including service on the Executive Board of the Council of Religious Leaders of Metropolitan Chicago.

He served on nonprofit Boards, including Family Promise of Linn County, the Interfaith Alliance of Iowa, the Iowa Abortion Access Fund, and Planned Parenthood of East Central Iowa. Reverend Tom also served on the Cedar Rapids Civil Rights commission.

He also served on the Board of the UUA Prairie Star District. He has also served as a consultant for the Southwest and Prairie Star District, providing services for various congregations. He was teaching staff at the UUA Dwight Brown Leadership School and at Southwest UU Summer Institute.

Reverend Capo was a psychotherapist for 30 years before coming to the ministry. He worked with individuals and families, providing consulting and training to hospitals, universities and NASA-JSC on issues ranging from stress management to eating disorders.

A project Reverend Capo is most proud of is co-creating SMILE (Students-Mentors-Internship with local Employers) with his congregation in Naperville, Illinois. SMILE is a mentor program for teens of color to help them realize their potential through positive work experiences. The UUA recognized the Naperville Congregation (DUUC) at General Assembly as a Breakthrough Congregation for this project.
