OUR Mission Statement:

Our Social Justice function strives to further the UUFVB mission of seeking justice for all by engaging in social justice actions including service, education, advocacy, and witness. These actions may be individual, committee, or congregational and may apply to local, state, national, or international issues.

The history of social justice involvement at UUFVB is lengthy. Over the last 40 years, various projects were initiated, all of which were based on service, education, advocacy, and or witness.  Many projects have been maintained over the years while some have ended due to fulfilment of their goals or lack of energy.  New projects frequently gear up as new needs and interests develop.

Several of the seven UU Principles relate directly to Social Justice:

  • The inherent worth and dignity of every person;
  • Justice, equity, and compassion in human relations;
  • The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all;
  • Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.

When we hear the words social justice, we usually think of providing a service to or support for people suffering from an injustice or misfortune.
