Reverend Tom Capo Welcomes You

Hello, I am Reverend Tom Capo. My passion for parish ministry has led me to serve various congregations in the Unitarian Universalist Association for the past 25 years. As minister here at Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Vero Beach (UUFVB), I prioritize developing authentic relationships with the people of the congregation and learning from them what they need from their minister. This is central to shared ministry at UUFVB. My approach is collaborative. The congregation discerns their goals and determines how to achieve those goals, as I serve as a resource to the congregation. Compassion and love are central to building this faith community, so I hold those as priorities in all that I do at UUFVB. You’ll hear my laughter in our hallways and see me having fun with congregants whether we are fundraising, doing social justice work, or worshiping.

I have an unquenchable thirst for social justice work and eagerly seek out connections across the larger community. I take the charge of prophetic witness very seriously and educate myself about the injustices that exist in Indian River County and in the world. An important part of my ministry is walking beside those who need the strength of my presence and the clarity of my voice as we speak truth to power and seek a more just world.

Interfaith engagement is essential for effective community change. To that end, I work hand-in-hand with leaders from a broad faith spectrum, building bridges that unite us in service to the community. Many of these leaders have become my personal friends. When they are harassed, threatened, or harmed in any way, I lean into power and privilege to bear public witness and offer practical hands-on support.

You’ll usually find me at the front door to greet you when you join us on Sunday mornings. I want to hear your stories. I am always willing to make time for you—to talk about your faith journey, your personal struggles, how things work at UUFVB, or whatever is on your heart. Whether you join us in the building or via our YouTube channel on Sunday mornings, know that you will be welcomed just as you are. Know that you will be loved just as you are. There will always be room for you in this beloved community. Blessings, and I hope to meet you soon.
