Sermon VI in the Year-Long Series:
“Classical Theological Words and Concepts that Make
Unitarian Universalists Uncomfortable”
Since our earliest beginnings as a liberal American religious movement, Unitarian Universalists have not been too keen on the classic Christian (cosmological) idea of heaven and hell (and the corollary idea of eternal life)…and to this day, “heaven and hell” are seldom ever discussed in a UU setting. But on this Easter Sunday, I would like to take “one step back” from this categorical rejection, and see if these two powerful words might still have some theological usefulness to us as 21st Century Unitarian Universalists.
