Rev. Dr. John Brown

In the Christian calendar, this Sunday is the second Sunday of advent for the year 2020…a time when Christians all over the world are spiritually “waiting” for the birth of the Christ child. Our Affiliate minister the Rev. Dr. John Brown will be exploring a variety of ways we human beings handle the experience of waiting when events in our lives require it. Do be with us for this holiday season reflection.

Did Baby Jesus Have Diaper Rash?

Rev. Scott W. Alexander

This Christmas sermon begins with a provocative question Christian Theologian Martin E. Marty famously asked in a 1984 Christian Century magazine article, “Did Baby Jesus Have Diaper Rash?”  For many conservative Christians, this is – believe it or not — a vexing and complicated question. How we understand the life of Jesus is of much spiritual importance at this time of year…I will be offering a Unitarian Universalist view.

Ring in the Season of Joy!

Once again this year, we will devote the Sunday before Christmas to a festive intergenerational service of holiday story and song. Special music is being prepared under the auspices of UUFVB Music Director Elizabeth Borne, and several of our Affiliate Ministers will be participating with Rev. Alexander and Kelly Stevens. We will sing carols of the season, and enjoy a variety of holiday themes.

Candlelight Christmas Eve Service at 5:00PM

Rev. Scott W. Alexander and Affiliate Ministers

Once again this year just after dark on December 24th, we will gather – either in person in our sanctuary or via internet live-stream – for our Candlelight Christmas Eve service.  Together, we will together sing familiar carols of the season, enjoy special holiday music (including a hand-bell choir), and hear stories of the season. Several of our Affiliate Ministers will join Rev. Alexander and Kelly Stephens in weaving together the moods and meaning of Christmas Eve.
