Title of Sermon: “The Assault on Truth?”
Minister: Rev. Scott W. Alexander
If you are like me, you have been both mystified and horrified by the fact that recently so many Americans seem significantly disconnected from objective reality and truth. The reasons for this alarming dynamic – that in many ways we are dangerously drifting toward becoming “a post-truth society” — are well understood by social scientists and psychologists. Let us together examine what is being called our “epistemic crisis” with the hope that we can play a part in its resolution.

“The Value of an Interim Minster”
Minister: Rev. Scott W. Alexander, Rev. Sarah York, Rev. Kenneth Hurto, Mr. Woody Sutton
Our settled minister of the last 11 years, Rev. Scott Alexander is retiring on July 31st of this year, and the UUFVB Board of Trustees – in alignment with the UUA’s recommended best practice – has been taking the steps necessary to secure a two-year interim minister for the congregation. We are devoting this Sunday service to explain “The Value of an interim Minister,” so everyone in the congregation will understand how this will lead us to a successful transition to our new settled minister. Participants in the service include Woody Sutton (from the Board of Trustees), the Rev. Sarah York (one of our Affiliate Ministers who has been an interim minister for four UU congregations over her career), the Rev. Kenneth Hurto (one of our Affiliate Ministers who was a UUA regional director for years) and Rev. Scott Alexander. There will be an opportunity for further discussion with the participants and the Board of Trustees during the Zoom coffee hour immediately following the service.
